With seizures exceeding 82 million dirhams, the Federal Tax Authority and Dubai Police confiscate about 3.6 million non-compliant selective goods

Joint inspection campaigns conducted by the Federal Tax Authority and the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police during the first half of this year resulted in the seizure of 3,587,315 non-compliant packages of excise goods and the issuance of 59 seizure reports against a number of establishments and individuals. The total value of the tax dues and penalties associated with these seizures amounted to AED 82,064,198, as part of efforts aimed at enhancing tax compliance and combating evasion.

These results were reviewed during a joint meeting held at the Authority's headquarters in Dubai, attended by His Excellency Abdulaziz Al Mulla, Director General of the Federal Tax Authority, and Sara Al Habshi, Executive Director of the Tax Compliance Sector at the Authority, alongside Colonel Dr. Saud Mohammed Al Khalidi, Assistant Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation for Specialised Crimes Affairs at Dubai Police, together with a number of officials and representatives of both entities. Those present were briefed on the performance indicators of the monitoring and inspection work resulting from the joint cooperation during the first half of the year, and on developments in combating tax evasion and detecting administrative violations.

Abdulaziz Al Mulla affirmed that the strategic partnership with Dubai Police represents one of the main pillars for enhancing the efficiency of the tax monitoring system, commending the role of the joint teams in carrying out the inspection campaigns and the results they achieve, which support compliance with legislation, preserve the competitiveness of the business environment, and protect legitimate companies and businesses in the State.

He explained that this cooperation, and the accompanying exchange of expertise and use of modern technologies, contributes effectively to raising the efficiency of monitoring operations and enhancing the ability to detect violations and take the necessary legal action against those who commit them.

Sara Al Habshi, Executive Director of the Tax Compliance Sector, said that the Authority's efforts are not confined to inspection and monitoring campaigns alone, but extend to strengthening community partnership through the Raqeeb platform dedicated to reporting cases of tax evasion, which enables the various segments of society to contribute to protecting markets and public funds.

She added that the Authority is intensifying its efforts to follow up on the compliance of all taxable persons with legislation and procedures across their various transactions, with the aim of protecting consumers from the circulation of taxable products that do not conform to the approved quality standards, stressing that effective communication and continuous coordination with partners constitute a fundamental pillar for advancing the efficiency of monitoring and protecting markets.

The two parties concluded the meeting by affirming the continuation of cooperation in carrying out the campaigns, intensifying efforts to detect excise goods on which tax has not been paid, and following up on the compliance of taxable persons with the tax legislation in the State.

This coordination aims to raise the level of compliance, increase the effectiveness of monitoring and inspection work, and benefit from the joint capabilities and expertise to support the sustainability of the tax system in the United Arab Emirates.
