Abu Dhabi Imprisons Two for Disturbing Public Order on Roads
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has issued a ruling convicting two individuals of disturbing public order on a public road, sentencing them to 6 months' imprisonment, fining one of them AED 100,000, and confiscating the vehicle used in the incident.
This followed the first defendant driving a vehicle fitted with warning lights designated for emergency vehicles, while the second defendant took part in installing the emergency systems device, without being legally authorised by the competent authorities to use it.
Details of the Ruling
In detail, the Court sentenced the first defendant to 6 months' imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of the vehicle, after convicting him of disturbing public order by driving, on a public road, a vehicle fitted with warning lights designated for emergency vehicles without being legally authorised to use them.
The Court also convicted the second defendant, the manager of a company specialising in the security systems trade, after it was established that he had supplied the first defendant's vehicle with the emergency systems device without authorisation, sentencing him to 6 months' imprisonment, a fine of AED 100,000, and the confiscation of the company's stock related to the goods sold to the first defendant.
Details of the Incident
The incident began when a vehicle was observed travelling on a public road fitted with warning lights reserved exclusively for emergency vehicles. Based on a security report and the examination of smart monitoring systems and surveillance and control cameras, the offending vehicle was identified and its driver apprehended, whereupon it was found that he held no legal authorisation permitting him to use such designated equipment.
Investigations led to the identification of the commercial establishment that had supplied and installed the security and warning systems on the first defendant's vehicle. Accordingly, the manager responsible for the establishment was apprehended, and both parties were referred to the Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi, which conducted the investigation into the incident and charged them with an act liable to disturb public order, before referring them to the competent court.
